A firefighter suffered burns to the neck while battling a Thomaston house fire Wednesday, Nassau fire officials said.

At 3:11 p.m., the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department responded to a house fire on Hill Park Avenue in the Village of Thomaston, Nassau County Assistant Chief Fire Marshal James Hickman said in a news release. About 75 firefighters responded to the blaze, including from the Great Neck Fire Department. The New Hyde Park Fire Department remained on standby.

One firefighter "sustained burns to the neck and is being evaluated" Hickman said Wednesday afternoon. Nassau fire officials could not be immediately reached Wednesday evening to provide updates on the firefighter’s condition department, elaborate on the nature of the injury or answer whether they were transported to a hospital for treatment.

Two other firefighters were evaluated for smoke inhalation at the scene, Hickman said, but he did not identify where they served.

A spokesperson for the Nassau County Police Department did not have any information regarding injuries at the fire when reached by telephone late Wednesday.

None of the home’s occupants were present at the time of the fire, the release reads. Fire marshals and the Nassau County Police Arson Bomb squad are investigating.
