Floral Park man ran from, fought with cops, police say
A Floral Park driver refused to pull over for police early Wednesday and was arrested after he ran from and fought with officers, authorities said.
Patrol officers had noticed a Honda Civic speeding Wednesday on Terrace Avenue in Floral Park, near Plainfield Avenue, and when they put on their emergency lights, Alex Mitchell, 21, refused to stop, Nassau police said.
Mitchell eventually stopped in front of his Laurel Street home, where he bailed out of the car, with officers in pursuit, police said in a news release.
When the officers caught up with Mitchell at 3:30 a.m., he struggled with them, leaving one officer with jaw, forearm and hand injuries and another officer with facial and forearm injuries, police said.
Mitchell was treated at the scene by a police medic, police said. The officers were treated at a hospital and released, police said.
Mitchell is charged with two counts of second-degree assault, resisting arrest, third-degree unlawful fleeing of a police officer, unlawful possession of marijuana and imprudent speed.
He will be arraigned Thursday, Sept. 28 at First District Court, Hempstead.
