3 arrested in West Babylon delivery man holdup, cops say

Suffolk County police arrested three alleged robbers who they said held a delivery man down in West Babylon and raided his pockets before taking off with his car, officials said on Tuesday.

Kamondre Dekattu, 17, and Marlon Rigueurm 16, both of Brooklyn, and a 15-year-old teen were all charged with two counts of robbery, officials said.

The bust comes several days after Nassau police arrested another group who also preyed on Chinese-food delivery workers, authorities said.

The incident began when the victim, a 34-year-old delivery man for Jackie Chan’s Kitchen in Wyandanch, arrived in his vehicle to deliver food on Westchester Avenue at 12:15 p.m. on Monday, officials said.

“He was in the process of unloading the food order from the backseat of the car when he was accosted by three individuals who held him down to the ground and rifled his pockets, stealing cash from his pockets and his cellphone,” said Suffolk County Chief of Department Stuart Cameron.

The three then stole his black Toyota RAV 4 and traveled west on the Southern State Parkway. They drove the car at a high speed before crashing near the Bethpage Parkway, Cameron said.

A Good Samaritan pulled over to assist after he saw the crash, and all three in the vehicle bolted from the wreckage, Cameron said. The group also took a jar of coins that from the car, Cameron said.

The driver then followed the three and dialed 911, alerting Nassau police that he was chasing the robbers. Eventually all were arrested on Intervale Avenue in Farmingdale

“I think this is a wonderful example of the three largest law enforcement agencies on Long Island working seamlessly together to apprehend these three dangerous individuals and get them off the streets,” Cameron said of the communication between Suffolk, Nassau and State Police.

On Friday, Nassau County police announced the arrest of four juveniles who they said were responsible for several thefts involving Chinese food delivery workers. Most recently, a 54-year-old man tried to deliver food on Wednesday night to a home on Bernard Avenue in North Lawrence, police said. But when he noticed the home didn’t exist, he went to a neighboring home and left his car idling, and that is when one of the juveniles hopped into the driver’s seat and took off, police said.

Attorney information for the three involved in the Wyandanch incident was not immediately available.
