Freeport man charged in assault outside bar, police say
A Freeport man has been charged with assault after an argument outside a bar turned into a fight early Saturday, police said.
Nassau County police said Jose Hernandez, 31, of North Main Street, was in a verbal argument with another man outside Xiomi’s Bar on South Main Street in Freeport at about 4 a.m. The man Hernandez was arguing with walked away, police said, but Hernandez approached the man and punched him in the back of the head. A fight ensued, police said, and Hernandez cut the man in the right hand with a box cutter.
The 22-year-old man suffered a deep laceration, police said, and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police said they arrested Hernandez at the scene, charging him with second-degree assault and two counts of possession of a dangerous weapon.
Hernandez was scheduled to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
