A Garden City man stopped for a traffic violation on the New York State Thruway in upstate New Baltimore was arrested Tuesday, charged with drug possession after troopers found marijuana and Ecstasy in his car, State Police said.

James P. Quirin, 29, was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana, police said. He was arraigned in Town of New Baltimore Court and remanded to the Greene County jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond, police said.

Police said a trooper stopped Quirin for a traffic violation on I-87 at 1:23 p.m. and that a subsequent investigation uncovered the pot and the MDMA — better known as Ecstasy or Molly.

MDMA is a psychoactive drug primarily used for its euphoric effects, police said.
