Statement regarding the Parente Family Tragedy

Garden City Public Schools expresses its deep sorrow over the tragedy that has taken the life of Catherine Parente, a student at the Middle School, alumna Stephanie (Class of 2007), and their parents. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to family and friends.

Catherine was a wonderful, talented and sweet child who was treasured by teachers and staff members. Her sister, Stephanie, is remembered for her achievements in school and her friendly, outgoing personality. The children and the family will be very much missed by the entire school community.

Our district's Crisis Response Team has met to develop a plan to help our school community in this difficult time. Counselors will be providing support for students and families as well as offering suggestions for parents to help their children cope with this tragic loss.
