State troopers on Long Island wrote 535 speeding tickets during a recent crackdown on speeding motorists, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said Wednesday.

Troopers in the 10 regional barracks around the state issued 21,864 traffic tickets statewide — 9,456 of them for speeding — during the “Speed Week” enforcement effort from June 7 through June 13, the governor said in a news release.

Troop L on Long Island issued a total of 1,820 tickets during the week, according to statistics released by the governor’s office.

“Reckless driving can lead to tragedy and potential life-altering consequences for drivers and passengers on New York’s roadways,” Cuomo said in the news release.

“I applaud the State Police and their partners in law enforcement for keeping dangerous drivers accountable and for their continued commitment to making our streets safer,” the governor said.
