Suffolk hate crime detectives are investigating graffiti discovered at Bayport-Blue Point High School and described by the district's superintendent as "hateful and racially intolerant."

The graffiti, which Bayport-Blue Point Superintendent Timothy Hearney said in a letter to the schools community, also included “inappropriate images and words,” was found Tuesday afternoon on walls of boys’ bathrooms in the school on Snedecor Avenue. Police said the graffiti was discovered at 3 p.m.

The graffiti had been removed by Tuesday night, Hearney said in the letter.

“Please know that the District takes these matters very seriously and does not condone the use or promotion of hateful messages or such references,” Hearney said. “Simply put, this type of behavior will not be tolerated.”

A school district spokesperson had no comment Wednesday beyond Hearney's letter and Suffolk police had no immediate updates on their investigation.
