A Great Neck man was arrested Saturday after he attempted to flee the scene of a drug transaction, police said.

Nassau County police said a number of officers from the Bureau of Special Operations were conducting plainclothes patrols in Great Neck in response to community complaints.

Officers observed a transaction take place in front of 46 Great Neck Rd. about 12:50 a.m., police said in a news release.

Police said they attempted to stop Corey Howell, 21, of Spinney Hill Road, and Howell resisted arrest by “flailing his arms” and pushing an officer. The officer suffered abrasions, bruising and pain in his hand, knee and elbow, police said.

Once Howell was placed under arrest, officers searched him and his car, where they said they found what is believed to be marijuana, non-odor drug bags, a scale and more than $3,500.

Howell was charged with second-degree assault, possession of a forged instrument, criminal sale of marijuana, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and criminal possession of marijuana.

Howell was arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead. A judge set bail at $5,000 bond, $2,500 cash. It was not clear if he posted bail. He is due back in court on March 28.
