Stopped for having a headlight out on his black Honda Civic, a Greenlawn man, 23, was subsequently arrested Wednesday night for possession of gummy bears — gummy bears infused with marijuana resin — State Police said.
Robert Amabile was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and traffic violations.
Police said the traffic stop occurred on Sunken Meadow State Parkway near Pulaski Road at 11:10 p.m. and that Amabile was arrested after he was found to be in possession of three “large” reclosable plastic bags that contained about 17 ounces of “a ‘gummy bear’ type candy” infused with the resin.
Amabile was scheduled for arraignment Thursday in First District Court in Central Islip.
