A Greenport couple was arrested early Saturday on charges of resisting arrest and fighting in the middle of the street, Town of Southold police said.

Police responded to Front Street in Greenport, where officers found Antoine Hunter, 25, standing in the street intoxicated, cursing and yelling, authorities said.

Police tried to clear the street where several people were arguing and, police said, Hunter punched a person in the face.

An officer tried to arrest Hunter, but he flailed his arms and resisted, police said.

At the same time, Brianna Parrish, 23, was in the road preventing officers from making the arrest by standing between police and Hunter, police said.

Parrish pushed the officer’s hands away to stop Hunter from being taken into custody, police said.

Police arrested Hunter and Parrish on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Parrish also was charged with obstructing an officer.

Both were taken to Southold police headquarters to await arraignment.
