Greenport man charged with DWI after traffic stop, cops say

A driver whose car was stopped for failure to signal, as well as for having “excessively tinted windows,” was arrested and charged with a host of drunken driving offenses after officers ran a fingerprint check and learned he’d given them a fake name — and that he was barred from driving because of a prior offense, police said.

Adolfo Ochoa, 36, of Greenport, was charged with driving while intoxicated, unlicensed operation, operating without an ignition interlock device, false personation, improper signaling and illegally tinted windows, Southold Town police said.

Police said Ochoa was stopped on Front Street in Greenport just after midnight on Tuesday. During the stop, police said, Ochoa identified himself as “Mario Avila” — but police said a subsequent fingerprint check revealed him to be Ochoa. That check also revealed that Ochoa had a prior DWI conviction, police said, and that his driver’s license had been suspended.

Ochoa was held for arraignment Tuesday in Southold Town Justice Court.
