A 20-year-old Hampton Bays man was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and multiple assaults after he came to Southampton Town Police headquarters under “the false guise” of attempting to bail out an acquaintance Thursday, police said.

Police said Victor M. Alamo Jr. was the prime suspect in the beating of a man found with “serious physical injuries” in the driveway of a home on West Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays at about 3:30 a.m. Thursday, as well as a criminal mischief incident a short time later at the nearby Hampton Bays Trailer Park. Alamo also was the suspect in two other assaults, including one early last month at a Hampton Bays 7-Eleven.

Alamo knew all the victims, police said.

The incidents Thursday began with a 911 call reporting the beating of an unnamed victim found in the driveway outside his home on West Montauk near Bess Lane, police said. That victim was transported by ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment.

Police said that as investigators looked into the assault they received a call for the criminal mischief incident at the trailer park. There, police said, they “developed information that the suspect in the assault and the criminal mischief were both one and the same.” But as detectives attempted to locate that suspect, police said, Alamo walked into headquarters — claiming he was there to “bail out an associate.” Instead, he was arrested.

Later investigation linked Alamo to not only the two Thursday incidents and the altercation at the 7-Eleven, but to an assault and menacing incident earlier on Good Ground Road, where police said Alamo punched his victim “multiple times.”

Alamo was charged with second-degree assault, two counts of third-degree assault, second-degree menacing and third-degree criminal mischief.

He now faces arraignment in Southampton Town Justice Court. Arraignment details were not available.
