The Nassau County police and Hempstead police investigate a shooting at Fulton Avenue and Clinton Street early Sunday morning. The victim was later pronounced dead. Credit: Jim Staubitser

Police are investigating a shooting in Hempstead early Sunday morning that left  a man dead.

The Hempstead Police Department received a call around 2:30 a.m. about the shooting, a Nassau County police spokesman said. The victim, identified as Paul Larue, 36, of Hempstead, was shot near the intersection of Fulton Avenue and Clinton Street, according to a Nassau police news release.

Larue was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The spokesman said police had yet to identify any suspect or motive behind the shooting.

Hempstead Assistant Police Chief Kevin Colgan referred questions to Nassau police.

Police ask that anyone with information about the shooting call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All calls  will be kept anonymous.
