Hempstead shop’s owner bought stolen jewelry, police say

A Garden City Park businesswoman was arrested Friday evening by police who said she was purchasing stolen jewelry and committing other crimes out of her Hempstead shop.

Amanda Molina, 57, “did not maintain the proper secondhand purchaser business records or recording of seller information” while conducting business at Amanda Jewelry on North Franklin Street, Nassau County police said in a news release.

The woman was also selling cigarettes without a New York State stamp, as well as counterfeit clothing and other merchandise labeled with trademarks that she did not have the authorization to sell, police said.

A call to the store went unanswered Saturday morning. Subsequent attempts to reach Molina were unsuccessful.

Molina, who was arrested by the Major Case Bureau Burglary Pattern Team, is charged with second-degree counterfeiting, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, and possession for sale of untaxed cigarettes.

She was issued a desk appearance ticket and is due in First District Court in Hempstead on April 26.
