An East Patchogue man arrested on drug charges has been linked to a fatal heroin overdose in Massapequa earlier this week, Nassau County police said.
Anthony Legette, 28, was arrested Tuesday in Farmingdale and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal sale of a controlled substance, police said.
Police did not give details on the overdose death, which happened Monday night. “The defendant is directly linked to this fatal overdose, which contained Fentanyl,” police said in a news release early Thursday.
Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder mentioned Legette's case at a community meeting about area overdoses in Farmingdale on Wednesday night, part of the county's "Operation Natalie."
"Anthony, we believe, has been selling, and is connected to, numerous deals from Farmingdale all the way down to Massapequa," Ryder told News 12 Long Island at the meeting. "So he was a main supplier for this community."
Legette was arraigned Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead and bail was set at $50,000 bond or $25,000 cash, online court records show. He was represented by the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, which does not comment on its cases.
