William Quigley left package for Hewlett neighbors with anti-Semitic remarks, police say
A Hewlett man was arrested and charged with harassment after police said he left an envelope with "hateful symbols" and anti-Semitic remarks outside a neighbor's home.
Nassau County police said William Quigley, 52, was charged with second-degree harassment, as well as third-degree and fourth-degree stalking.
Police said this isn't the first time Quigley has harassed his neighbors, noting the victims in this case "have received unwanted packages from this neighbor in the past."
Police said the family was asleep and that their 7-year-old son was awakened by "loud screaming" outside — and then woke his parents to tell them what he'd heard.
Police said the parents then reviewed footage from a doorbell surveillance camera and "observed" Quigley leaving the letter at the home.
Quigley was arrested following investigation by Fourth Squad detectives. The case was continued at arraignment Friday in First District Court in Hempstead and a temporary order of protection was issued, according to online court records.
Quigley was represented by the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County. Attempts to reach that agency were unsuccessful Friday evening.
