Hewlett resident on vacation has home burglarized, cops say

Police are investigating a burglary in Hewlett that occurred sometime between April 24 and Sunday.

According to detectives, a 46-year-old homeowner in Hewlett returned from his weeklong vacation Sunday to discover that someone had broken into his home on Newport Drive.

The burglar broke in through a basement window, stole two watches and an undetermined amount of cash, and then left through a rear sliding door, police said.
