Hicksville registered sex offender Borys Barrera-Callejas charged with possessing child porn

A Hicksville man who is a registered sex offender was arrested and charged with possessing child sexual abuse materials, police said.

Detectives arrested Borys Barrera-Callejas, 38, on Sept. 3 after an investigation determined he failed to "properly report" his social media accounts on his phone "which is forbidden as a registered sex offender," the Nassau County Police Department said in a news release Thursday. Upon further investigating, detectives found "numerous child pornography files located on his phone," police said.

Barrera-Callejas was charged on Sept. 3 with three counts of possessing obscene sexual performance by a child under the age of 16 and two counts of sex offender’s failure to report change in status.

He pleaded not guilty the following day before Judge Michael Alpert in First District Court in Hempstead, according to court records. He is represented by the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County and will return to court on Oct. 8.

Detectives ask anyone who may be a victim to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS or the Special Victims Squad at 516-573-4022. Those who call will remain anonymous, the department said.
