Luis A. Melendez, of Brentwood, charged in double hit-and-run crash that injured pedestrian
A Brentwood man was charged Sunday with being one of two hit-and-run drivers who struck and badly injured a pedestrian Feb. 11 in Brentwood, Suffolk police said.
Luis A. Melendez, 54, was driving a 2006 Honda Accord at about 3 a.m. when the vehicle struck a 37-year-old woman at the Brentwood Road Long Island Rail Road crossing.
The woman, who police said was walking home from work, was then struck by a blue sedan that also fled the scene. She was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious injuries, according to police.
Melendez was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury, and will be arraigned at a later date, police said.
Third Squad detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call 631-854-8352 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
