Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a man late Wednesday afternoon in Hampton Bays.

Southampton Town police said officers responded to a crash at the intersection of Springville Road and Neptune Avenue at 5:01 p.m. and found a critically injured pedestrian, later identified as Angel Asimbay, 67, of Hampton Bays. Police said Asimbay was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where he later died.

Police have not released any information about the type of vehicle believed to be involved in the crash, but said both Southampton detectives and the State Police were investigating.

Anyone with information on the hit-and-run is asked to call Southampton detectives at 631-702-2230.
