Cops: Long Beach hit-run driver sought; man critically injured
Police said Wednesday they continue to look for a hit-and-run driver who struck and critically injured a man as he entered his car early Jan. 28 in Long Beach.
The crash occurred on northbound Riverside Boulevard near East Hudson Street at 5:35 a.m., according to the Nassau County police Homicide Squad.
The victim, identified as a 50-year-old man, suffered “multiple fractures and severe head trauma” and was transported to a hospital, where he was in “extremely critical condition,” police said shortly after the crash.
The victim was entering a parked vehicle on Riverside Boulevard when he was struck by the passing vehicle — the force of that impact sending him into another parked vehicle, police said.
The driver never stopped, but “fled the scene northbound on Riverside Boulevard,” police said.
Detectives are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All calls will remain confidential.
