Bicyclist hurt in Jericho hit-and-run, Nassau police say
An 80-year-old driver was ticketed Thursday after police said she hit a bicyclist in Jericho and drove away.
The bicyclist, 68, whose name wasn't released, sustained a head injury and severe bruising after being struck at about 9:48 a.m. at the intersection of Jericho Turnpike and Cedar Swamp Road by a Cadillac SUV, the Nassau County Police Department wrote in a news release. The driver kept driving north on Cedar Swamp Road.
"A subsequent investigation by detectives led them to identify Lena Saban," the release said, "as the person responsible."
She had been found by the detectives “a short time later," according to the release, which did not detail how the detectives were led to Saban or why she's believed to be the hit-and-run driver.
Saban, of Brookville, was detained and freed on a desk appearance ticket charging her with leaving the scene of an incident with serious injury. The case is due in court May 20.
Saban could not be immediately reached for comment.
