A homeless teenager was charged Monday in connection with a robbery that Nassau County police believe he committed in July.

Police said Dakota E. Stafford, 16, of no known address, approached a 47-year-old man at 1 a.m. on July 20 at a Gulf Gas Station on Old Country Road in Westbury and demanded money. Stafford hinted that he was carrying a gun during the robbery, police said. The man, who worked at the gas station, gave Stafford an undetermined amount of money and an iPhone, police said.

After the robbery, Stafford ran away south on Maple Street, police said.

Officers said they found Stafford in Hempstead on Monday because he was at First District Court in connection with a different incident that occurred in Freeport.

Stafford was charged with first-degree robbery and will be arraigned Tuesday in First District Court.
