Nassau County police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the death of a 39-year-old woman found dead of apparent gunshot wounds by officers conducting a wellness check Saturday at an apartment building in Mineola.

Police said officers responded to the apartment at 140 Old Country Rd. as part of a wellness check at 11:16 a.m. and found the victim, who was pronounced at the scene by a police medic. Police have not released her identity — or additional details of the incident — but said the investigation is ongoing.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the case to call 911 or Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
