Shots fired during a dispute at a Huntington Station parking lot Tuesday morning forced nearby schools to go into lockout, according to the Huntington School District.
Suffolk County police said shots were fired just before 10:25 a.m. during a dispute between a group of men in the parking lot of a shopping center on New York Avenue. No arrests were made and no one was injured, police said.
Four nearby schools implemented a secure lockout — where all exterior doors and access to buildings were restricted but classes continued as usual — out of an "abundance of caution," according to a letter sent to the district community. The four schools were Huntington High School, Finley Middle School, Jack Abrams Intermediate School and Woodhull Intermediate School.
The lockout was lifted around 12:20 p.m. Tuesday.
