Two women charged with selling illegal fireworks in Mastic store

Two Suffolk County women were charged Friday with selling illegal fireworks in a Mastic store, Suffolk County police said.
Officers went to Smokes R Us on Poospatuck Lane at 1:55 p.m. and saw signs on the door that fireworks were for sale, police said in a news release. Police said they found 250 cases of fireworks, which are valued at more than $100,000, on shelves and in storage.
The store owner, Danielle Treadwell, 47, of Mastic, and store manager, Althea Hatcher, 56, of West Babylon, were charged with illegal storage of explosives, and unlawfully dealing with fireworks and dangerous fireworks, police said.
Both received appearance tickets and will be arraigned at a later date at First District Court in Central Islip.
