James Cadet of Brooklyn posed as rental agent, collected $2G from victim, cops say

A Brooklyn man was charged with grand larceny after Nassau County police said he put up a false rental ad and posed as a real estate agent.

Police said James Cadet, 33, of 1630 St. Johns Place, posted an ad for a Kings Point cottage for rent on Craigslist. A female victim met with Cadet, who said he was a real estate agent, in April 2015 and gave him three money orders totaling more than $2,000, police said.

When the victim attempted to move in a month later, she could not get access to the property. Police said she learned Cadet was not affiliated with the property or the real estate agency after reaching the property’s listing agent.

Police located Cadet in Brooklyn and arrested him about 12:30 a.m. Saturday. He was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and second-degree criminal impersonation. He was scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
