James Caffrey charged in 2 robberies, police say

A Queens man was charged with two robberies after he was nabbed moments after a street holdup in Stewart Manor Thursday, Nassau police said.

James Caffrey, 22, was arraigned in First District Court Thursday on two counts of second-degree robbery and held pending a $250,000 bail, authorities said.

Police said he stole money from a man on Tulip Avenue just after midnight and officers responding to the call found him walking on Covert Avenue, near the robbery scene.

A pellet gun was recovered, police said, and during the investigation, Caffrey was identified as the suspect in a Tuesday robbery in Floral Park.

In the Tuesday robbery, an 18-year-old man leaving work at a Key Food store in Floral Park was approached by a man demanding money.

“I’ll shoot you,” the suspect is alleged to have said. “I just got out of jail.”

The robbery took place at 9:30 p.m. as the victim was walking westbound on Tulip Avenue. The victim complied when he saw what he believed to be a handgun in the man’s waistband. The suspect fled on foot, heading south on Landau Avenue.

It was not immediately clear Thursday night if Caffrey, of 203rd Street in Bayside, had an attorney.
