Judge rejects partial verdict in Frank Tinari kidnapping case

A jury reached a partial verdict Wednesday in the trial of a former Holtsville man charged with plotting to kidnap a politically connected attorney who had represented him on a civil case.

The jury said in a note to State Supreme Court Justice Fernando Camacho in Central Islip that it had reached a verdict on five of the six counts against Glenn Terry, but had been unable to reach a verdict on the sixth. The note did not say which counts were involved, or the nature of the verdict.

Camacho discussed the legal ramifications with prosecutor Peter Timmons and defense attorney Marc Gann of Mineola before deciding not to accept the partial verdict.

He later sent the jurors home for the day and told them to resume deliberations on the sixth count Thursday morning.

Terry, 48, was angry because he felt attorney Frank Tinari, who is also the chairman of the Suffolk County Conservative Party, did not adequately represent him in the civil suit, prosecutors said.

He faces a maximum of 34 2⁄3 to 44 years in prison if convicted on all charges, including second-degree attempted kidnapping and several weapons charges.
