A Riverhead man was arrested after the victim of a Tuesday night street robbery provided responding officers with a description of the alleged assailant, town police said.

Justus Davender, 20, has been charged with second-degree robbery, according to Riverhead Town police.

Police said officers responded to a 911 call reporting a robbery on Wilson Avenue in Riverhead at 10:26 p.m. Tuesday and that the victim told them he’d just been robbed at gunpoint — and that his wallet and cellphone had been taken. He then provided police with a description of the suspect.

A search of the area led police to stop Davender on nearby Charles Street. Police said he was found to be in possession of “a realistic-looking BB handgun,” as well as the victim’s wallet.

The victim was not injured in the robbery.

Police said Davender faces arraignment Wednesday.
