Keston Mayers arrested on marijuana, weapon charges, police say
Officers responding to a call Tuesday for a Freeport man in need of assistance arrested him on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of a loaded handgun, Nassau County police said.
Freeport Village police responded to call from a Rutland Road residence at about 10:10 p.m. to check on the well-being of a man who possibly was in need of assistance, according to a news release.
The man was able to walk himself to an ambulance, and police got permission from the homeowner and the man to search the premises, the release said.
The search resulted in police finding a loaded Ruger handgun, two loaded magazines with 10 rounds each, a box of ammunition, in excess of 10 pounds of a substance believed to be marijuana and growing supplies that included lamps, filtration equipment and plants also believed to be marijuana, police said.
Keston Mayers, 30, of Rutland Road, is charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
Police said he was deemed fit after being taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow.
