Police seek public's help to identify killer of man on Poospatuck Reservation in Mastic
Almost a year after a Mastic man was found shot to death in his home on the Poospatuck Reservation, police are asking for your help in find the person — or people — who killed him.
Suffolk County police said officers responding to the scene on Poospatuck Lane last July Fourth after relatives called 911 requesting a "wellness check," found Josue Bedell, 47, dead of a gunshot wound.
But homicide detectives have neither found his killer — or killers — nor released a motive. Police have released a photo of Bedell wearing a camo-print Yankees cap.
The reservation is occupied by members of the Unkechaug Indian Nation.
Poospatuck translates to "where waters meet" and the Poospatucks were present on Long Island when Dutch and English settlers first arrived back in the 1600s.
Police are asking anyone with information about the homicide to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. Tipsters can also submit an anonymous tip using a mobile app downloaded through the App Store or Google Play by searching P3 Tipsa — or by going online at www.P3Tips.com.
All calls, texts and emails will remain confidential, police said, and tipsters are eligible for a cash reward for any information leading to an arrest in the case.
