An Oyster Bay man being arrested Thursday on a charge of driving while intoxicated fought with police and tried to grab an officer’s service revolver, Nassau County police said.
William V. Kalish, 22, of Pine Valley Road, is charged with third-degree attempted robbery, resisting arrest, driving while intoxicated, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and multiple vehicle and traffic violations, police said.
Kalish was driving a 2011 Mitsubishi north on Bayville Road in Lattingtown at about 9:30 p.m.
Officers conducting a vehicle and traffic stop at Ryefield Road observed that “Kalish was intoxicated and attempted to place him under arrest,” according to a news release.
Kalish began to resist, physically fighting with the officers, the release said. He also tried to remove a service weapon from one officer’s holster.
The officers were able to subdue Kalish, and he was taken to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation. He was released a short time later, police said.
Kalish is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
