Constantine Theodosiou, Lawrence High School employee, charged with allegedly touching student inappropriately

A Lawrence High School employee identified by the school district as a substitute teacher was arrested and charged after he allegedly touched a student in an inappropriate manner, the Nassau County Police Department said.

About 1 p.m. on Tuesday, the student reported to an administrator at the Cedarhurst school after "being inappropriately touched by a school employee," police said in a news release.

In a message to the Lawrence school community regarding Tuesday's alleged incident, Superintendent Ann Pedersen said the matter involved a student and a substitute teacher, neither of whom was named.

Nassau police investigated the allegation and charged Constantine Theodosiou, 59, of Cedarhurst, with forcible touching, endangering the welfare of a child and third-degree sexual abuse, according to the release.

Theodosiou pleaded not guilty Wednesday at arraignment at First District Court in Hempstead, according to court records. He was released on bail of either $1,000 in cash, a $2,000 insured bond or a $5,000 partially secured bond, with a temporary restraining order issued, the court records show.

Theodosiou is scheduled to return to court next Wednesday. Court records indicate he is represented by John Carman, a Garden City lawyer who was not immediately available for comment.

Pedersen said the district was "limited" in what details it could share about the alleged incident.

"We ask for your understanding as we work to ensure the integrity of the investigation and protect the privacy of those involved," Pedersen said in her message. "Additional information will be shared with the school community as it becomes available and appropriate to do so."
