NORTH AMITYVILLE / Arrested in fatal stabbing
An Amityville man was arrested Sunday on charges that he fatally stabbed another man outside a North Amityville home in December, Suffolk police said.
Jonathan Garcia, 22, was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Nicholas Murphy, 23, of Bay Shore, on Emerald Lane North.
Murphy was taken a short distance away by two companions, who called 911. Murphy was then taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead.
Garcia is to be arraigned Monday in First District Court in Central Islip.

ROOSEVELT / Man attacked, robbed by 7
A man walking down a Roosevelt street early Sunday was beaten, cut and robbed by a group of seven men, Nassau police said.
The victim, 22, was walking east on East Clinton Avenue about 3 a.m. when he passed by seven men standing on the corner of East Clinton and Park avenues. The men began following the victim, and one of them asked if the victim had a dollar.
When the victim turned around, one suspect punched him in the face, then all seven began beating the victim, knocking him to the ground.
Another suspect used a knife to cut the victim's neck and remove a gold chain before all of the suspects ran away.
The victim used a private vehicle to go to a hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released. Police said the suspects were described as in their late teens or early 20s.

PORT JEFFERSON STATION / 1 sought in holdup at eatery
A man carrying a chef's knife robbed a Port Jefferson Station restaurant Sunday, grabbing cash from the patrons before fleeing, Suffolk police said.
No one was injured in the 7:30 a.m. robbery, which took place at the IHOP on Route 112.
Police said four people were eating at the restaurant when the man entered, wearing a bandanna over his face and carrying a chef's knife. The man demanded money from the patrons, robbing them of an undisclosed amount before leaving on foot, police said. The suspect did not try to rob the store register, police said.
The man was described as in his 20s, about 6 feet tall, weighing between 180 and 200 pounds and wearing dark clothing. Police ask anyone with information to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
