ROSLYN/Thief throws woman to ground

Police are investigating a purse snatching of a woman who was walking to her Roslyn home.

The incident occurred at 8 p.m. Tuesday on Edwards Street, police said.

A man approached the woman, 44, from behind, forcibly took her handbag and threw her to the ground, police said in a Wednesday news release.

The suspect took the victim's money and iPod Touch, police said.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244- TIPS. Callers will be kept anonymous.

Detectives do not believe Tuesday's robbery is connected to about a dozen purse snatchings that hit South Shore communities in the last few months of 2010, said Det. Michael Bitsko, a police spokesman.
