EAST MEADOW/Police: Drugs, arms in car

Three Long Island men were arrested after police said officers found a collapsible baton, a .22-caliber rifle and heroin during a traffic stop in East Meadow.

Dennis Egan, 22, of 16 Willowood Dr., Wantagh; Jeffrey Marmolejos, 22, of 13 Seamans Neck Rd., Wantagh, and Joseph Conticelli, 25, of 468 Gardiners Ave., Levittown, were each charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon.

Nassau County police said Egan, the driver, also was charged with criminal possession of a dangerous weapon and improper signaling, while Marmolejos was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Police said Third Precinct officers stopped the car on Hempstead Turnpike at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday and saw the baton on the driver's side floor. Further investigation revealed a loaded and altered .22-caliber rifle and 330 wax envelopes used to package heroin, police said. Three wax envelopes contained heroin, according to police.

Egan was held on $20,000 bond or $10,000 cash. Marmolejos was ordered held on $50,000 bond or $25,000 cash. Conticelli was ordered held on $50,000 bond or $25,000 cash Thursday.

ST. JAMES/Gun-threat suspect sought

The Fourth Precinct Crime Section is trying to find a man who put a gun to a woman's head in a convenience store parking lot in St. James, Suffolk County police said.

On March 28 at about 3:15 a.m., police said a passenger in a parked car at the 7-Eleven at 356 Lake Ave. was upset after a woman, 21, either "looked wrong" at him or spoke to him as she left the store.

The passenger left the car, pulled a black, semiautomatic handgun from his waistband and held it to the woman's head as she got into her car, police said.

The man returned to his car and the driver sped away, police said.

KINGS POINT/Man steals wedding ring

A man stole a wedding ring from a woman unloading groceries from her car in her garage in Kings Point, police said.

Police said the robber covered the mouth of the victim, 66, pushed her into the backseat and stole the ring. He fled in a waiting car.

Nassau County police said the robbery was on Ballantine Lane at about 1:40 p.m. Wednesday. The woman was not injured.

Police said the robber was about 6 feet tall, 180 pounds and clean-shaven. They are asking anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.

WESTBURY/Home robbery attempt

An 83-year-old man was the victim of a home invasion and attempted robbery on Floral Lane in Westbury, police said Thursday.

A suspect, Jason Walker, 34, of 3 Clover Lane, also in Westbury, has been arrested, Nassau police said.

A man entered the home at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday through an unlocked front door, police said, and demanded money from the victim. He forcibly went through the victim's pockets, police said, but left the house empty-handed when a family member came home and called police.

The family member identified a suspect and Walker was arrested later that day outside his home, police said.

He was held on $100,000 bond or cash.
