Man, 49, dies in motorcycle crash;

cops say wet road likely the cause

A Medford man died Sunday night when his motorcycle overturned on the rain-slicked New Jersey Turnpike near Jersey City, New Jersey State Police said.

Marc Hauptman, 49, lost control of a 2007 Kawasaki as he was riding east on the turnpike near the Exit 14C toll plaza, overturning the motorcycle, police said.

Hauptman, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown off the bike and taken to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9:18 p.m., police said.

The incident report cited the wet roadway as likely contributing to the driver losing control, but the crash is under investigation, the spokesman said.
