SOUTHOLD: Greenport man killed in dirt-bike collision

A Greenport man was killed when his dirt bike collided with another in the Cove Beach Estates area of East Marion.

Southold town police say Jefferson Treadwell, 23, was riding the bike on a private road Sunday night when he collided with Terrence Lawrence, 29, also from Greenport, coming from the other direction.

The two men were taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital by the East Marion Fire Department's rescue squad, where Treadwell was pronounced dead from his injuries, and Lawrence was transferred to Stony Brook University Medical Center for further treatment.

No criminal charges are expected to be filed. The two dirt bikes were impounded for safety inspections.

AQUEBOGUE: One killed, six injured in multi-car crash

A Great Neck man who drove into oncoming traffic on Main Road in Aquebogue set off a four-car crash that left one person dead and six hospitalized, Riverhead Town Police said.

Behrouz Benyaminpour, 54, was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry east on Route 25, just east of Colonial Drive, when he crossed the double-yellow line into oncoming traffic at 12:49 p.m. Saturday, according to a police report.

Benyaminpour's vehicle caused a 1998 Jeep Cherokee driven by Carlene Devito, 65, of Hampton Bays, to swerve, sideswiping a 2005 Honda Accord. The driver of the Honda, Courtney Riso, 28, of Jamesport, then collided head-on with a Hyundai Elantra, driven by Joseph E. Fulcoly IV, 18, of Calverton.

A passenger in Benyaminpour's car was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center with head trauma and later pronounced dead, police said.

Four passengers in Benyaminpour's vehicle, along with Fulcoly and Devito, were taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, police said.

Updated information on the injured was not immediately available.

Police have not released the name of the person who died. They said an investigation is continuing and asked witnesses to call 631-727-4500.

LEVITTOWN: Convicted sex offender charged in groping incident

A registered sex offender was arrested and charged with felony sex abuse after he groped a woman inside a Levittown store, Nassau County police said.

Tod Stolting, 48, of Levittown, approached a 26-year-old woman Sunday inside the Target store at 3850 Hempstead Tpke., "put both hands inside her shirt and groped her," police said.

He hurriedly left the store, police said, as the woman screamed to alert store employees.

An Eighth Precinct police officer apprehended Stolting in the store parking lot at about 9:30 p.m.

Police said Stolting, of 259 Newbridge Rd., "attempted to flee from police and resist arrest before he was ultimately handcuffed."

Stolting, a registered sex offender, was charged with sexual abuse, resisting arrest and obstruction.
