LI man found shot to death in Queens

A Long Island man was gunned down in Astoria, Queens, shortly before sunrise Saturday morning, New York City police said.

Responding to a 911 call, police found a 41-year-old man with multiple gunshots to head on a residential street lined with row houses at 4:57 a.m. Emergency medical responders pronounced him dead on the scene.

Cops found numerous shell casings at the scene on 28th Street between Ditmars Boulevard and 23rd Avenue. Witnesses saw a man flee the shooting on foot, police said.

The victim's name is being withheld because his family hasn't been notified, police said.

In 1989, the man was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and assault. He was subsequently arrested three times for burglary, three times for drug possession and charged twice for resisting arrest. He also had two arrests for grand larceny, one dating back to 1987, and a sealed arrest for possessing burglary tools, police sources said.
