Suffolk County police say they have identified the car involved in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian last month in Lindenhurst.

First Squad detectives have determined the vehicle was a black Hyundai Sonata manufactured between 2005 and 2008. The vehicle may have damage to the passenger-side front fender and door, and may be missing the passenger-side mirror.

Police said they received a call that a 27-year-old Brooklyn man was walking in the northbound lanes of Wellwood Avenue near Herzel Boulevard about 6:15 a.m. on Feb. 17. Another 911 caller reported five minutes later that the man was lying in the road, police said.

An investigation determined that the man had been hit by a vehicle that sped away, police said.

The man was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip to be treated for broken bones and a head injury.

Detectives are asking that anyone with information on the crash call 631-854-8152 or 800-220-8477.
