The owner of a Mastic fence company who scammed 10 customers out of more than $20,000 during the past six months was charged with first-degree scheming to defraud, according to Suffolk police.
Steven Vitigliano, the owner of Line Up Fence Co., agreed to install fencing on several properties within the Seventh Precinct, Suffolk police said. Vitigliano, 37, collected $20,000 payment in cash or checks from property owners but failed to do the contracted work and stopped communicating with the customers, police said.
Vitigliano was arrested Saturday evening at the Suffolk County Police Department’s Seventh Precinct. He was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
It was unclear Sunday if Vitigliano had retained an attorney. He could not be reached for comment.
Seventh Squad detectives identified 10 victims but said the investigation is ongoing and asked anyone who has additional information or believes they may have been a victim to call 631-852-8752.
