Riverhead police are investigating who brought a loaded gun found at the Splish Splash water park in Calverton Wednesday.
Just before 6 p.m. that day, Riverhead Town police responded to a call that an employee of the Calverton water park "discovered a loaded handgun following a disturbance involving several juveniles," according to a department news release.
Patrol officers secured the weapon, which was handed over to detectives, Riverhead police said.
As of Friday afternoon, detectives were still investigating who possessed the gun recovered at the summertime attraction, the release said.
Riverhead Town police did not respond to Newsday's requests for comment Friday afternoon.
Danielle Trombetta, director of marketing for Splish Splash, said in an email: "Safety is our top priority. We are fully cooperating with the Riverhead Police Department as they investigate this matter further."
