A Long Beach man who Nassau detectives said slammed a robbery victim in the face with a bicycle on Tuesday in Freeport after the victim tried to recover his own bike, was arraigned on assault, robbery and drug charges in First District Court in Hempstead Wednesday.

Khaliek Stewart, 21, of Georgia Avenue is charged with first- and second-degree robbery, second-degree assault, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of a dangerous weapon in connection with the 1 p.m. incident on South Main Street in Freeport, authorities said.

His attorney could not be reached for comment.

Police said Stewart and another man were riding bicycles when they were confronted by a 44-year-old man who believed he was the owner of the bike being ridden by the other suspect, who remains at large. Police said Stewart “swung his bicycle, striking the victim in his face causing him to fall to the ground,” after which Stewart and the other suspect punched and kicked the victim before leaving the scene, Stewart on his bicycle and the other suspect on foot.

Freeport Police found Stewart in a Home Depot parking lot at 160 E. Sunrise Hwy. and arrested him, police said. Police said that Stewart had six Alprazolam pills on him when he was apprehended.
