Motorcyclist killed in crash

A motorcyclist was killed Friday when his 2004 Harley-Davidson collided with a truck on Hempstead Turnpike in Farmingdale, Nassau police said.

The motorcyclist, 52, whose name was not released, was traveling west on Hempstead Turnpike shortly before 9 p.m. when he collided with a 1998 GMC Yukon that was turning left onto the eastbound roadway.

The victim was pronounced dead at 9:50 p.m. at a nearby hospital. The Yukon's driver, 48, was not injured.

The Yukon was released from the scene after passing a brake and safety inspection. The motorcycle was impounded for safety checks.

Police do not suspect any criminality, but the investigation is ongoing.

ManhattanDeal with 3 charter schools

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced yesterday that his administration had found spots for three charter schools for which his administration had previously rescinded space-sharing permission.

The prior administration of Mayor Michael Bloomberg had greenlighted the so-called "co-locations" of the Success Academy charter schools, run by a de Blasio political foe, Eva Moskowitz, but earlier this year de Blasio said he would halt them.

The mayor later reversed course -- and the administration walked back a statement by his schools chancellor that the alternative schools were "on their own" -- after a multimillion-dollar ad campaign by the charter schools and public support for them by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo.

Moskowitz said in a statement yesterday that she was "deeply grateful to the mayor for his support."

For the upcoming school year, the schools will be housed at three former Catholic schools -- Annunciation School on 131st Street in Manhattan, St. Pius X School on 249th Street in the Rosedale neighborhood of Queens, and Mother Cabrini High School, 701 Fort Washington Ave., also in Manhattan.

Car-theft rap for B'klyn man

A Brooklyn man, who had agreed to purchase a 2004 Audi A4 from a Westbury used car lot Friday night, instead displayed a loaded pistol and stole the car and an employee's cellphone, Nassau police said.

Dave Brimmer, 21, of Montauk Avenue in East New York, arrived at the used car lot on Urban Avenue at 8:45 p.m.

After agreeing to a sale price, an employee entered the office to retrieve the keys and title. But when he returned, Brimmer displayed a gun and demanded the keys, title and the employee's cellphone, police said.

Brimmer fled in the Audi but was found a short time later driving west on the Southern State Parkway by an officer from Nassau's Fifth Precinct.

Brimmer is charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

CutchogueCops threatened with fork

A Cutchogue man is under arrest after he threatened police officers with a large barbecue fork, Southold Town police said.

Authorities received a call about 9:30 a.m. yesterday about a man carrying a hammer and banging on doors on Cox Lane.

Police arrived and found Robert Sullivan, 52, carrying a barbecue fork. Sullivan advanced on an officer, police said, and was ordered to drop the weapon.

Sullivan eventually complied and was arrested, police said. He is charged with menacing and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
