Nassau County police arrested a Westbury man Saturday morning and charged him with robbing a Westbury McDonald’s restaurant earlier in the morning.

Police said Lyndon Q. Hawkins, 51, of 101 Taylor Ave., demanded money from a cashier about 5:40 a.m. at the restaurant at 35 Old Country Road. There were no customers in the restaurant at the time, police said.

The 58-year-old cashier handed over cash after Hawkins said he had a gun, then reported the robbery to police after he ran away. A short time later, police found Hawkins in the alley of the Pines Motor Lodge, where Hawkins lived, authorities said.

Officers chased Hawkins through the alley and recovered the money, but found him unarmed. He was charged with first-degree robbery and is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday morning in First District Court in Hempstead.
