Machete attack in Greenport injures 2, Southold police say
A man and woman are recovering at Stony Brook University Hospital after they were both slashed with a machete Friday night, police said.
Southold Town police were called to a house on Second Street in Greenport at 8:11 p.m. and found a man outside bleeding from slash wounds. A woman was found inside with similar injuries.
Both were taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital in the village by the Greenport Fire Department and later transferred to Stony Brook, police said.
The extent of their injuries was not known Saturday morning.
A man had fled the scene before police arrived and remains at large, police said. The case remains under investigation.
