Cops: North Amityville man has 64 driver’s license suspensions

A North Amityville man was arrested Thursday afternoon after officers questioning him during a traffic stop discovered his driver’s license had been suspended — 64 times, police said.
Jaquan Joas, 27, was found to be driving with a suspended license, was not authorized to drive the car he was driving and had an outstanding warrant, Suffolk County police said.
Police said Joas was stopped by First Precinct officers for an undisclosed traffic violation while driving a 2018 Honda on State Avenue in Wyandanch at 3:30 p.m.
A background check found his license had been suspended more than five-dozen times — and he was not the registered vehicle owner, police said. Police said Joas also had an outstanding parole warrant.
Joas was charged with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and an outstanding parole warrant.
Police said Joas was held overnight at the First Precinct.
He was arraigned Friday at First District Court in Central Islip and held on $20,000 bond or $8,5000 cash, according to online court records.
