Man charged in Roosevelt bank robbery, Nassau police say
A 49-year-old man faces arraignment Friday, charged with robbing a Roosevelt bank on May 25, police said.
Timothy Brown, of Valentine Street, Roosevelt, was arrested at 11 p.m. Thursday on Fulton Street in Hempstead and charged with second-degree and third-degree robbery. He was scheduled for arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead.
Nassau County police said that at 11:25 a.m. May 25, Brown entered the Bethpage Federal Credit Union branch on Nassau Road in Roosevelt, approached a male teller and demanded cash. The teller complied and, police said, Brown took the cash and fled the scene on foot, headed west on Henry Street.
Police issued a description of the suspect at the time, describing the robber as being in his 50s, about 5-foot-5 with a medium build and wearing wire-rimmed glasses, a black hooded sweatshirt, gray jeans, black sneakers — and a New York Yankees baseball cap.
Police said an investigation by Robbery Squad detectives led to the arrest of Brown.
Nine employees and four customers were in the bank when it was robbed, police said. There were no injuries.
